Due to strike and component shortage
This month, it was thought that the rental of Stockholm’s new electric bicycles would start, but this does not seem to be the case now.
DN reports that the launch of the rental service for electric bicycles in Stockholm has been forced to move forward. Citybike, the supplier of the bicycles to be rented out, states that strikes in Italy, component shortages and covid shutdowns in China have affected deliveries. Daniel Mohlin, Nordic Manager for Citybike, tells DN:
“The global disruptions in the manufacturing and logistics industry have been challenging for us as well, but now we can finally start rolling out Stockholm’s new electric bicycles.”
It has now been said that Stockholm’s new electric bicycles will be available for rent from 10 May. During the first stage, it is planned to exhibit 1000 bicycles at about 100 stations. By the summer, the aim is for the number of bicycles to be up to 2,000. When the system is fully developed, it will consist of 5,150 electric bicycles and 120 electric box bicycles distributed at at least 300 stations throughout the city.
