The relationship between Xbox and Japan has always been complicated, with the country always preferring Sony or Nintendo. This peaked negatively with the Xbox One, which sometimes only sold a few copies per week. However, Phil Spencer and Microsoft have set themselves the goal of changing the situation on the archipelago. Good news, the dynamic has reversed and continues to improve.

Sales are accelerating, unheard of for 10 years

Indeed, sales are getting better and better for Xbox in Japan. Between April 18 and 24, more than 6,000 Xbox Series were sold:

  • 566 Xbox Series X, bringing the total number to 95,856 since release
  • 5,459 Xbox Series S, for a total of 88,678

These sales are helped by the better availability of the Xbox Series S, which is easier to produce and has a lower price. It’s a new sign of Xbox’s revival in this territory, with a new record! This is the first time since 2010 that Xbox has sold more than 6,000 consoles in the same week, outside of their launch. Phil Spencer’s teams can therefore rejoice in a first encouraging sign, as the Xbox Series has already sold more than the Xbox One in Japan. As a reminder, Sarah Bond announced that Xbox had signed up with 200 developers from this country.
