Apple has announced iPadOS 16, and it includes several powerful features that power iPad users are sure to appreciate.
Most notable is Stage Manager’s new multitasking feature, which allows users to group multiple overlapping windows into groups, similar to the same feature in macOS Ventura.
And for an iPad with an M1 chip (or better), you can use a full resolution 6k external display, and Stage Manager lets you split the workspace to include four apps on the external display and four apps on the iPad display. This feature should be especially handy for those who want to use the iPad as a full desktop computer.
The Files app also includes some new desktop-class features, including the ability to change file extensions and view folder sizes.
Freeform is an intriguing new collaboration app that allows users to view, share, and collaborate on the same Apple Pencil-enabled canvas. Freeform also has FaceTime and Messages integration.
iPadOS 16 also gets features found in iOS 16 and macOS Ventura, including support for shared Safari tabs, the ability to undo and edit messages, the ability to schedule emails in the Mail app, and improvements to Live Text and Lookup.
The Weather app is finally coming to iPadOS 16.
The iPadOS 16 beta is available to developers now and will be released as a public beta next month.
The final version of iPadOS 16 is due out this fall along with iOS 16 and macOS Ventura.
