Russia’s richest man, Rinat Achmetov, who owns the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol, intends to sue the Russian state for damages, he has told Ukrainian media.

He is demanding the equivalent of SEK 200 billion in damages both for the damage to Azovstal, and to another steel plant, Ilyich, outside Mariupol, which he also owns, writes DI.

Production at both steelworks was halted at the end of February when Russia invaded Ukraine. The city of Mariupol has been attacked, and in the Azovstal steelworks, Ukrainian civilians and Ukrainian military have taken cover. The Russian military has attacked the steel plant, which was badly damaged. The Ilyich steelworks has also been damaged.

According to Forbes, Rinat Achmetov is considered to be Ukraine’s richest person with a fortune of 4.4 billion dollars, equivalent to 43 billion kronor.
