Researchers have created a network for the exchange of information by teleportation in three times. As a reminder, in the quantum domain, these exchanges of information take the form of qubits and not conventional bits (0 or 1).
These qubits exploit the laws of quantum physics which acts in the infinitely small. One of its peculiarities, called entanglement, allows two entangled particles to behave in the same way, regardless of the distance. Their coordination is so perfect that we then speak of teleportation.
Currently, qubits can be transmitted via optical fiber, but teleportation is limited to a few kilometers, then the signal is lost. It is therefore necessary to maintain a chain so that the signal can go everywhere. And it is exactly this feat that is described in the study published in the world reference journal Nature. It is explained that scientists have introduced a relay which has extended the range of quantum communication.
Their test thus made it possible to communicate two quantum nodes called Alice and Bob which were not directly connected via Bob. This discovery makes it possible to envisage the development of this technology without limitation of space and in complete safety. Indeed, any attempt to intercept a qubit automatically transforms it and makes it unreadable, an undeniable asset for ensuring the security of data and exchanges. Physicist Ronald Hanson hopes this technology will be available in less than 20 years.
