According to research firm IDC.

Smartphone shipments have been declining for the third quarter in a row. Back in the first quarter of 2021, shipments of smartphones decreased by almost 9% (in quantitative terms, this is about 314 million phones) compared to the same period a year earlier.

Modern smartphones

Many people worry about possible economic instability and rising inflation almost all over the world. This stops people from buying new smartphones, especially from expensive flagship models. The largest decline in smartphone shipments was recorded in the Asia-Pacific region, including China. In Central and Eastern Europe, there is a decline in smartphone shipments of up to 20%, but this region accounts for no more than 7% of global shipments.

Smartphone Market Leaders

Against the backdrop of declining demand for smartphones, Samsung, Apple and Xiaomi remain leaders in the global market. Here’s what percentage they currently hold the smartphone market:

  1. Samsung – 23.4%
  2. Apple – 18%
  3. Xiaomi – 12.7%

Russia in connection with the sanctions left many brands, including Apple. The American apple company stopped deliveries of new devices to Russia from the first days of March 2022. Samsung also suspended the supply of new devices to the Russian Federation. But Xiaomi smartphones continue to be actively sold in Russia.

In April, it became known about the decision of the Russian authorities to allow “parallel import” – import and sale of equipment in the Russian Federation, bypassing the copyright holders.
