Earlier this month, Apple employees returned to work in the corporate office in a hybrid format. The process was gradual. They are currently in the office one day a week, but company policy requires employees to be in the office at least three days a week by May 23.
However, some employees are less than enthusiastic about the idea of returning to the office. Having formed a new group called “Apple Together”, these people advocate for the well-being and rights of employees. In a letter to company executives posted Friday on the Apple Together website, the employees urged executives to be more flexible.
As Apple continues to return to the office plan, the company is encouraging people to “show their team spirit” by participating in weekly photo calls and getting their hands on the latest perfume, according to an internal memo.

The letter cites several reasons why Apple Together employees believe remote work should still be an option.
We tell all our customers how great our remote work products are, but we can’t use them to work remotely ourselves? How can we expect our customers to take this seriously? How can we understand what problems of remote work need to be solved in our products if we do not live it?
It goes on to say that commuting is “an enormous waste of time and mental and physical resources.” There is also an argument about how this hybrid model affects the diversity of the company’s workforce. “It will make Apple younger, whiter, male-dominated” and lead to “the privilege of deciding who can work at Apple, not who is best suited.”
The last paragraph speaks for itself:

We hire smart people so they can tell us what to do.” Here we are, the smart people you’ve hired, and we’re telling you what to do: please get out of our way, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, let’s decide how we work best and let’s do the best job of our lives.
