A few days agoNintendo announced that the release of Super Mario, the Film originally scheduled for the holiday season, was postponed in spring 2023 (to see here for details.) No reason has really been put forward to explain this postponement… While waiting to find out more, today, a leak seems to reveal the story and several elements of the film… Relayed by Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb, this leak which reveals a lot of things, is not for all that more credible. This is above all a rumor and the information it contains should be taken as such. According to Jeff Grubb it could be thatUniversal and nintendo organized a test screening of the film close to its release which would not have given them satisfaction, thus necessitating a postponement. This often happens in Hollywood. This leak could then come from one of the first spectators (yet, necessarily under nes) It is also possible that it is simply a fake. Anyway, if you want to keep surprise effect– in the event that certain information contained in this leak turn out to be correct, there is still time to go your way.
Find below the main information contained in this leak:
- The film will be musical and will therefore have several songs.
- The style of the film is caricatural close to that ofHotel Transylvaniaanimated film by Genndy Tartakovskyfather of the iconic Powerpuff Girls and Dexter’s Laboratory
- There are allusions to video games but no gritty humor, farts or otherwise”Minioneries”
- Mario and Luigi’s look has been slightly revamped
- The two brothers start the film with worn and dusty clothes with slightly different colors. They will recover their emblematic clothes later in the film
- They have a Brooklyn accent, man. A priori, no one complains about voices “that sound right”
- Donkey Kong Jr, Pauline and Toad are supposed to appear in the film
- There would be Toad girls without it being known if one of them will have a Toadette-style role
- Spike (a priori ” the brothers boss” from the game Wrecking Crew) would appear at the beginning and end of the film
- Among the enemies present, we should find the Goombas, the Marto brothers, Bill Balle, Fuzzy, Ninji…
The story :
Apparently, there would be two worlds: the real world and the world of the Mushroom Kingdom. The film would start in the real world and continue in that of the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario would then find himself embarked on a classic chase story in order to deliver Peach from the horrible Bowser… Find below some more or less clear outlines taken from the video of Jeff Grubb.
- The film would begin with a narration of Charles Martinetthe official voice of Mario (not to be confused with Pierre, the intractable caterer- ok I’m out) who would tell us about a fight with Donkey Kong and obtaining a golden hammer (from Wrecking Crew.) The fight would be spectacular and well fought.
- Having become famous, still in the real world, Mario then hears a curious story of gorillas and turtles fighting in the sewers. Mario descends underground to investigate and encounters gorillas partying or playing drums.
- Mario meets Cranky Kong but can’t understand him – he doesn’t speak Gorilla (we’re in the real world.)
- Mario ends up falling down a pipe and lands in the Mushroom Kingdom
- This is where we hear the first song of the film. It’s Bowser who sticks to it. He tells us about his life and his desire to take possession of the kingdom.
- As we suspect, he then kidnaps the princess. He blows everything up and disappears in his flying fortress.
- Mario and Toad go looking for him…
- It’s time for the second song. A song about plumbing.
- In the real world, Luigi is worried and looking for Mario. In turn, it descends into the sewers and passes through the pipe.
- Luigi in turn lands in the Mushroom Kingdom; more specifically in the forbidden forest
- Luigi meets Yoshi there
- Mario battles Bowser but fails
- Kamek then sends him to the forbidden forest where he finds Luigi and Yoshi.
- Luigi and Mario get their beautiful costumes
- The two brothers go to Bowser’s Castle
- Three Bowser clones appear. They make jokes and fight the brothers. they merge into some kind of thing
- Towards the end, a song will have everyone singing, the Toads to free the princess, Mario and Luigi not to lose hope
- Meanwhile Bowser and Peach will argue
- Kamek gives Bowser a mushroom that becomes giant
- He then chases the Mario brothers through a maze of pipes and different places familiar to players (cloud world, desert, etc.)
- Two items will then have a role to play: the flower of fire and the star.
- At some point, Yoshi and Kamek will fight. They have scores to settle. Kamek will have fun modifying the environment with his wand like in the games.
- At the end, Mario will triumph (sorry for the suspense…) He will find a trick by tricking Bowser who will go through a pipe leading into a sea of lava. game-over
- Finally, Mario will decide to open a plumbing service in the Mushroom Kingdom
- And this will be the end credits
- A priori, we will be entitled to a post-credits scene which shows the Bowser skeleton escaping from the lava
So what to remember? Super Mario the Movie would be a musical with a classic plot with a kidnapped princess to deliver… At the same time, it’s an adaptation of Super Mario ! It will be necessary to see what this gives in particular in relation to the style, the humor, the interpretation or even with the quality (or not) of the music and the songs. Of course, once again, we remind you, it’s onlya rumor and everything can be entirely wrong.
