IT House April 30 news,Today marks the 20th anniversary of Apple’s eMacwhich is designed for educational use in classrooms and computer labs.
The original eMac sold in the U.S. $999(about 6623.37 yuan), with a white casing, equipped with a 17-inch flat CRT display,700 MHz PowerPC G4 processor128 MB RAM, 40 GB hard drive, five USB ports, two FireWire ports, two speakers and an internal CD-ROM drive.
Plus, an upgraded model with a faster 56K internet modem is priced $1199(about 7949.37 yuan).
Introducing the eMac in April 2002, Apple founder Steve Jobs said: “Our education customers asked for a desktop computer designed just for them, and the new eMac features a 17-inch flat CRT and a powerful G4 processor, while It retains the one-piece compact enclosure that educators love.”
IT Home has learned that the eMac is equipped with Mac OS X version 10.1.4 (Puma) system,and pre-installed with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser. Apple’s own web browser, Safari, was released in early 2003.
In June 2002, Apple reported strong demand for eMacs,Begins selling eMacs to all consumers. Apple has since continued to release versions of the eMac with upgraded specs and SuperDrive.
In October 2005, the eMac was again limited to educational institutions,In July 2006, the eMac was replaced by the low-end 17-inch iMacand has since disappeared from people’s sight.
