It’s hard to get more iconic than the Solex. The famous moped was a hit in France after the war and until the end of the 80s. It needed a modern and necessarily electric successor, here it is.
The Solex, contraction of VéloSoleX, has been on all roads in town and in the countryside. There ” self-driving bicycle as promised in an advertising campaign at the time, was extremely popular among students and workers due to its affordability, sturdiness and reliability.
The revival of a popular vehicle
While electric bikes are reshaping cities, it was high time for the legendary French brand to launch itself into this market. L’E-Solex will therefore be officially presented at the beginning of July on the occasion of Pro-Days, the professional bicycle show to be held in Paris. It was designed by Pininfarina, a famous Italian designer who wanted to recall the historic lines of two-wheelers.
The E-Solex will be marketed from the summer of 2023. The price is likely to sting: €4,599, a far cry from the very cheap Solex of the 50s and 60s. However, Easybike, the owner of the brand, will put developed a long-term rental offer which will be invoiced from 100 to 130 euros per month for 36 months (with maintenance and warranty included).
Easybike will be able to rely on made in France to conquer market share in France. Because the electric bike is entirely produced in France, in the Saint-Lô factory, which is supplied with parts and components by French suppliers: the engines are thus manufactured by Valeo in Lyon, the frames are built in the Bouches-du- Rhone, etc.
The history of the brand has been turbulent, after the incredible popular success followed by many difficulties that almost caused Solex to sink. The brand was acquired in 2013 by Easybike, a specialist in electrically assisted bicycles.
