Players do what Nintendo failed to do.
Nintendo 64 never got anything Metroid-game. Yoshio Sakamoto has said that they were thinking of one Metroid to the 64 platform, but that they never went ahead with it because he could not see Samus running around in 3D. Ironically, the next was Metroid very much 3D when it later appeared on the Gamecube, then in the form of the fantastic Metroid Prime.
Two fans apparently still lack one Metroid on N64 so they have completely sonic started working on their own game. Luto Akino shared a video on twitter where we get to see how their vision of Metroid 64 looks.
The project is done in Unity and looks interesting. Unfortunately, projects like these do not usually be particularly long-lived and we will see how long it takes before Nintendo’s lawyers knock on the door.
