If you enjoy playing games on your smartphone, you’re probably familiar with Vainglory, an online multiplayer battle arena game in which two opposing teams fight to get to the enemy base and destroy it. Now Super Evil Megacorp, the company behind Vainglory, is about to release Catalyst Black, a new battlefield game for iOS and Android.

Catalyst Black has been in development for some time now. In fact, if you watched the iPhone 13 keynote last September, there was a brief demo of the game during the A15 Bionic chip and ProMotion display segment.

According to the developers, the goal of Catalyst Black is to offer a “new world of epic battles” with powerful guns, numerous customizable abilities, and “mystical primal creatures from another world.” Built on the company’s proprietary engine, known as “EVIL”, the game features improved graphics and is ready to run on a wide variety of devices.

In Catalyst Black, players will take to the skies as they embark on an expedition to claim rich caches of power found on the exotic Welkin Islands. Soaring high above Kyria, the Welkins offer near-limitless access to the mystical resource catalyst, but also hold the great secrets of Black’s Catalyst itself.

With a free business model, Catalyst Black allows players to collect, upgrade, and customize items to improve their game. There will be over 30 different weapons and 12 abilities at launch, with more to come in future updates. The more you play, the more hunting and long-range shooting skills you get.

Catalyst Black includes several game modes. In Hydra mode, players can fight other players and a big boss. In Slayer mode, you must defeat enemies to earn points until you win. There’s also an Eventide mode to challenge control of an ancient fortress. Users can join teams from 5v5 to 12v12 players.

Although the game was created with touch screen in mind, it is also compatible with game controllers. Players will also find options to reduce graphics quality to conserve battery life if they choose, and can even turn on 120fps mode, which will be exclusive to supported iOS devices at first.

Catalyst Black will be released for iOS and Android on May 25th. Interested users can pre-register on the game’s website to receive a release notification.
