the cloud gaming allows you to enjoy games remotely without having the machine that can run them at home. Your device (PC, tablet, smartphone, etc.) then becomes a simple object displaying the image and sound it receives, while sending your actions to the servers. This is the case with Xbox Cloud Gamingcurrent PS Now of sony (soon to be merged with Playstation Plus), GeForce NOW, etc. It is therefore possible, via a subscription, to play console and PC games from any device without having them at home. It is also possible since 2019 to have fun on PC VR under the same principle, and via a subscription Shadow, paper space or more recently Plutosphere without having an imposing tower at home.

Last month, a user of Reddit appointed Samulia discovered the string AVALANCE_CLOUD_GAMING_INFRA_ENABLED in version 24 of the firmware of the Quest. Yes, you heard right. The latter having been delivered about 18 months ago, this suggests that the project Avalanche has been in development for some time.

A few days ago, another user of Reddit (technicalthrowaway) posted a screenshot appearing to reveal an option Enable Avalanche (Alpha) appearing in the experimental features tab of the sound settings Quest 2writing the following:

I pressed it, saw the “finding server” message for about 20 seconds, then loaded Oculus Home […] subsequently a rotating ring appeared and remained frozen.

Whereupon the latter confirmed to YouTuber SadlyItsBradley that he was able to play a game of Asgard’s Wrath completely remotely for free via a server located in England. Whether Meta is known to deploy its features in small groups (see article), we have yet to hear from other people who are in the same situation.

In 2020, the vice-president of facebook gamingJason Rubin, described the cloud computer VR as being over five years of research and development. John Carmack also said the company had “endless discussions” about the minimum quality threshold required to ship the streaming computer VR. Play games VR remotely is already possible on Quest with third-party software (which we mentioned at the beginning of the article), although the shop’s policy Meta and of theApp Lab relegates these services to the third-party store Side Quest. The launch of the solutions Shadow VR and Plutosphere would he have accelerated the plans of Meta ? If the latter includes in the form of a subscription access to the PC VRwill this mark the end of Plutosphere or of Shadow VR?

If you haven’t taken the plunge yet, you can treat yourself to a Meta Quest 2 at the house of Bakerthe Fnac, Darty Where Amazon for €349.99.
