Huawei held a large-scale presentation of hardware innovations, in which the company introduced a new smartphone with a flexible display Huawei Mate Xs 2.

Interestingly, Huawei decided to go back to basics and used the design of the original 2020 Mate X that folds outward. Apparently, the experiment with the Huawei Mate Xs form factor did not go to consumers.

The novelty received a 7.8-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2480×2200 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which can be folded into a 6.5-inch panel with a resolution of 2480×1176 pixels. In the upper right corner is a 10MP selfie camera.

Huawei says the Mate Xs 2 features an advanced dual-rotor hinge mechanism that improves durability while also leaving no visible creases on the display. The panel itself received a polymer coating with a new four-layer structure.

There are three cameras on the back: a 50MP main camera, a 13mA ultra wide-angle lens, and an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical and 30x digital zoom and optical image stabilization. Despite this form factor, Mate Xs 2 weighs 255 grams. For comparison, last year’s model, the Mate Xs, weighed 300 grams.

The novelty is equipped with last year’s Snapdragon 888 4G chipset with 8/12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of internal memory. Other features include support for the Huawei M-Pen 2s stylus and a 4880mAh battery with support for 66W fast charging.

Huawei Mate Xs 2 will go on sale in China from May 6 at the following prices:

  • 8/256 GB – 9999 yuan ($1512);
  • 8/512 GB – 11,499 yuan ($1,739);
  • 12/512 GB – 12,999 yuan ($1966).
