Arcane mages are more often at the “receiving end” of WoW developer love. Sometimes it seems that the unusual way of playing is too weak. Then again too strong. Then too weak again. Current Status: Too weak. That’s why there’s a single target damage buff in WoW Patch 9.2.5. Also: A Dispell experiment for Clearcasting, still being evaluated in the Dragonflight future.

According to the developers of the popular online role-playing game World of Warcraft, the Arcane Mages are behind in terms of single-target damage compared to their peers. And that’s why the class designers have decided that they have to help the arcane mage of the world with WoW Patch 9.2.5 in the short term by buffing some of their main sources of damage.

At the same time it ensures that the mage buff “Freecast” can’t be dispelled at the moment. But that won’t last forever, as the Blizzard folks explain, this is just a short-term fix to an arcane issue. Details coming soon! Before that: In WoW Patch 9.2.5 will also remove the threat from tanks buffed across the board and Beast Mastery Hunters are allowed more splash damage cause to slightly offset a tier set disadvantage.

Arcane single target buff for mages – and dispel protection for clearcasting

Here’s what the developers of WoW have (buy now ) both Patch 9.2.5 balance notes noted:
arcane

  • Arcane Missile damage increased by 8 percent.
  • Arcane Blast damage increased by 10 percent.
  • Freecast can no longer be dispelled.

Developer Notes: “We feel that Arcane’s single target damage would benefit from an increase, but also want to provide some protection from enemy Dispell for the Clearcast critical rotation buff. This is a change that we’ll be examining in more detail with WoW: Dragonflight in mind. In general, we want magic buffs like these to be and remain unbannable. In this case, we believe that there is a need to support this specialization in the short term.”

Speaking of which, patch 9.2.5 also has a small nerf for all magicians, specifically in PvP:

  • Gift of the Lich (Necrolord Medium) duration reduced by 33 percent in PvP.

Developer Notes: “deathborn” is one of the most powerful cooldown skills in the game, but with the current amount of media, it regularly lasts 50+ seconds. We feel it is necessary to reduce this duration in PvP.
