In less than a month, Star Wars fans will finally be able to welcome a much-loved character from the original films back to their home screens with the launch of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi. Of course, to the delight of die-hard fans, the Jedi Master returns from his original actor Ewan McGregor embodied.
The return of another iconic character from the first films has already been confirmed for the new Star Wars series: Again may Hayden Christensen slip into the role and suit of the heavily breathing antagonist Darth Vader, just as he did at the end of Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. But how Christensen’s involvement in the Star Wars universe will continue after that is still unclear.
A transformation for eternity? Christensen on his future in Star Wars
in one Interviewed by GamesRadar Christensen spoke about his previous role in the Star Wars films, his journey as Anakin Skywalker and his recent return as Darth Vader in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi. Because when he donned the black suit in the prequels, he took on the legacy of original Darth Vader actor David Prowse:
“As George [Lucas] got me into the prequels was to play Anakin. At the end he is knighted as Darth Vader and I was allowed to wear the suit for a few scenes. But my journey was as Anakin Skywalker. And this character? He’s so complex. And now exploring his insides and the emotional state of Darth Vader has been a lot of fun.”
Whether Christensen has more appearances than Darth Vader will have or whether the legendary villain will even get his own series, the actor wrapped the cloak of silence about it. But he doesn’t seem to be averse: “The extent of this journey remains to be seen I guess. But what a privilege it was to come back and do this, to be a part of this project.” A month ago, Christensen spoke about his return as Darth Vader and how excited he was about the opportunity.
Although Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi first May 27th on Disney Plus will run, and then only the first two of a total of six episodes can be seen, we have already been able to take a look at Darth Vader’s appearance in the series. In any case, the image of the menacing power user seems extremely promising.
