The next hurdle in Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard has been cleared. The majority of shareholders voted in favor of the transaction. But that doesn’t mean the deal actually goes through.
The acquisition of Activision Blizzard is nearing the home stretch. At an extraordinary meeting, more than 98 percent of shareholders voted in favor of the proposed transaction, clearing an important hurdle.
Bobby Kotick, the publisher’s CEO, declared to vote: “Today’s overwhelmingly positive vote from our shareholders reinforces our shared belief that together with Microsoft we will be even better positioned to create great value for our players and even greater opportunities for our employees, and remain focused on delivering an inspiring To become an example of a welcoming, respectful and inclusive workplace.”
Investors remain skeptical
The fact that the majority of shareholders spoke out in favor of the sale of Activision Blizzard is likely to be largely related to the expected increase in the value of their investments. Because the sum offered by Microsoft is well above the current market value of the publisher.
However, even after the results of the voting were announced, the share value only dipped slightly, which means that investors see a possibility that the deal could fail. According to market observers, antitrust checks are now more critical.
Acquiring Activision Blizzard would mean Microsoft would get the rights to some of the biggest franchises in the industry. “Call of Duty”, “Warcraft”, “Overwatch” and “Crash Bandicoot” can be cited as examples. King, the publisher’s mobile division, is also very strong. Industry observers assume that the deal will not last Microsoft’s Metaverse plans to inspire.
