It seems that Sony has started a new department whose task will be to make old games playable for posterity. It is a game developer who himself states on Twitter that he is one of the first to be hired for Sony’s new department that will preserve games.
Sony themselves have so far not commented that they would make any investment in preserving old games, so it remains to be seen what this results in. It is clear that Sony could do a better job of preserving old games that they have released to their previous consoles.
Should Sony start making old retro titles playable on newer consoles, it is probably not entirely impossible that these will appear on the new version of PlayStation Plus eventually.

The new Playstation Plus will arrive on June 22
In Europe
About a week ago, Sony announced that they will renew the PlayStation Plus with new levels. The idea was that this new PlayStation Plus would be launched in June and now we have found out that the European launch will take place on 22 June. People in the US will get it on June 13th and people in Japan will get it already on June 1st. As we previously reported, this new PlayStation Plus will offer three different categories Essential, Extra and Premium. Playstation Plus Essential is actually today’s Playstation Plus where you get two games a month to download, some discounts and opportunities to play online. If you have Playstation Plus today, you will continue the subscription at this level if you do not make any changes. The price tag is 9 euros a month, 25 euros for a quarter and 60 euros for a year. Playstation Plus Extra contains everything from Essential plus a catalog with 400 games (PS4 and PS5) and Sony promises here that this will contain blockbusters both from their own catalog and from third-party developers. From the start, games like Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11 and Returnal will be available. The price tag is 14 euros a month, 40 euros a quarter and 100 euros a year. Playstation Plus Premium is the highest level and here you get 340 additional games which are mainly old games from Playstation, PS2, PS3 and PSP. PS3 games will be available to play via Cloud streaming, the rest of the platforms will be available to stream if the market has Playstation Now today. The price is 17 euros a month, 50 euros a quarter and 120 euros a year. Speaking of PlayStation Plus, the games Syphon Filter (1999), Syphon Filter 2 (2000), Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (2006) and Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow (2007) will probably appear on the service since they were recently listed for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 by South Korea’s age recommendation system.
