Last year, Apple released the long-awaited Swift Playgrounds 4, which for the first time allowed developers to submit their projects directly from the iPad to the App Store. The company is now inviting developers to try out the new Swift Playgrounds 4.1 beta, which brings new features to the iPad app and especially to the Mac app.

For those unfamiliar, Swift Playgrounds is an Apple app that helps developers and students learn the company’s Swift programming language. With the iPad app, developers can also easily code and submit their designs to Xcode or the App Store.

Swift Playgrounds is a revolutionary app for iPad and Mac that makes it fun to learn and experiment with Swift, the powerful programming language created by Apple and used by professionals to build today’s most popular applications. Swift Playgrounds does not require any programming knowledge, so it is ideal for beginners.

With Swift Playgrounds 4, the iPad version of the app has received many new features, such as the ability to upload projects to App Store Connect, live app previews, and more. These features will now arrive on Mac with version 4.1, which will also allow developers to build apps from scratch with this tool.

According to Apple, these are the main new features for Mac users:

Preview your app and see changes in real time as you type (App projects require macOS 12.4 beta 2 or later). Launch the app in a separate window and install it in your Applications folder. Learn how to build apps with step-by-step tutorials and examples provided by Apple. Submit your app to App Store Connect and distribute it with TestFlight. Type with quick inline code suggestions. Browse the SwiftUI library of controls, symbols, and colors. Use public Swift packages. Search through all files in your project. Open your new app projects in Xcode.

Developers can request access to the Swift Playground beta through the Apple Developer website. Just go to the Downloads web page, click the Beta menu, and then select the Applications tab. If your request is accepted, you will receive a TestFlight invitation via email.
