8 year old survival game sees new player rush

One title cannot be missing from the founders of the survival genre: DayZ. Since 2013, the zombie adventure has been haunting players’ PCs and later also on their consoles. Since then, the game has experienced a steady decline in player numbers. But in 2022 things are suddenly going fantastic again. For the second time in a row, it has broken its own player record.

DayZ is making a big Steam comeback

Since December 2013, players can immerse themselves in the huge world of Chernarus and have to survive the zombie hordes and other players. With the launch into Early Access, the survival game reached back then impressive player numbers of 45,398.

Since then, the number of players – not least because of poor performance and missing features – has been declining. With the publication of Full version in 2018 the zombie epic could trigger an upswing.

But it was not until November 2021 that DayZ broke its launch success for the first time 45,937 concurrent active players. This success will now be continued and even crowned with the year 2022.

The next record breaking took place in January and in April 2022 there are 58,240 game finishes with the all-time high in the zombie apocalypse.

Where is the current hype coming from?

Even with the full version 1.0, the developers at Bohemia Interactive still hadn’t implemented all the promised features. Gradually, the survival game is still with content via updates fed.

The last content update only made its way to the game’s servers on April 19th. are included especially settings for sensitivity in certain situations, such as aiming the gun. In general, many changes relate to the control, including the controller.

In the game itself, the survivors will now find new weapons that are primarily from the civilian spectrum. More items can come with new crafting options getting produced. Players can now craft improvised gas masks, spears, and more.

One reason for the en masse return of players could also be related to that current event of the survival game have to do. You can still experience Walpurgis Night until May 9th, where you can dress up as a witch and do other practical jokes.
