Amid ongoing rumors about the imminent release of Apple Glass, the US Patent and Trademark Office has issued Apple two new patents related to the mixed reality headset (Mixed Reality).
According to Patently Apple, one of the patents describes a head-mounted device (HMD) faceplate that uses an infrared one-sided mirror coating. The patent states that headwear-like sunglasses or ski goggles use protective coatings that create a one-way mirror effect. That is, the user’s eyes will not be visible behind these glasses.
Apple’s upcoming headset is rumored to feature several optical components, including a visible light camera, an infrared light emitting device, and an infrared light sensor.
The second patent describes several accessories for charging the headset, including a stand that can be hung on the headset like on-ear headphones and a flat base station.
Unfortunately, this is just another patent, and it is not clear if Apple implements it in the future.
