Now we are reached by the sad news that the number of fatal accidents with snowmobiles has doubled in the last two seasons. This year alone, eleven people have died. The reason is said to be far too high speeds in combination with the fact that you do not have full control of the area and then maybe, for example, drive into a tree or a rock. The maximum permitted speed for snowmobiles is 70 km / h, but many can easily get up to over 120 km / h. Another reason for the doubling of the number of fatal accidents is also that more people have started driving snowmobiles. April is high season and the late spring with the heat makes the ice worse, and there are many snowmobile drivers driving. In the last ten years, there have been 57 fatal accidents and of these, six have been drowning accidents where people have gone through the ice.

The majority of those who have died are men between the ages of 40 and 55, often experienced snowmobile drivers. Accidents involving alcohol have decreased.
