In January 2022, the Spanish professional league (Liga) de football has filed a complaint against many pirate IPTV services which broadcast paid content without authorization, in particular football matches. The police investigation made it possible to stop a vast network. To put it simply, 166 Spanish bars have been caught broadcasting pirated content. Most of these bars are located in very big cities like Madrid, Cordoba, Barcelona, etc.
The police said: “Thanks to the operation, all the infrastructure that allowed the illegal viewing of paid multimedia content was dismantled, with the identification of those responsible and the cessation of the illegal service they provided.»
And the owners of these bars risk a lot since they have obtained an economic advantage by broadcasting matches without paying compared to other bars which did not have this possibility. In total, the damage is estimated at more than one million euros.
La Liga fights fiercely against piracy and sometimes even in a very limited way, it has already been fined 250,000 euros for having set up a spy device capable of listening to what was happening around the user, but also to know his geolocation.
