With the HS65 Surround, Corsair has the ambition to establish itself as one of the sure values of headsets for less than a hundred euros. A goal far from being easy to achieve, the fault of numerous and already very well established competition. However, thanks to its sound and manufacturing qualities, Corsair rises to the challenge with flying colors. Between powerful and precise audio, microphone with flawless clarity and pleasant design, the HS65 Surround is quite simply a total success!
a good head
Far from Microsoft’s standards in this area, the packaging of the new Corsair gaming headset is extremely classic. When opened, a simple cardboard shell protects the HS65 Surround and its USB adapter, giving the whole a rather “cheap” first impression. Nevertheless, the main thing is elsewhere and it only takes a first contact with the helmet to understand it.
As soon as it is taken in hand, the HS65 Surround seduces. The perceived quality is excellent, starting with the plastics chosen to dress the accessory. Whether it is the headband, the headphones or the microphone, all the parts of the helmet are indeed very soft and pleasant to the touch, giving the whole a very good overall finish.
We enjoy manipulating the object and at no time do we feel like we have a plastic toy in our hands. Especially since the overall aesthetic is also very successful in a sober style.
Available in two colors, black or white, the HS65 Surround is rather discreet. Wearing it is thus very natural, whether you are at home to play or outside to enjoy your music. The only eccentricity that Corsair allows itself is the integration of its metal logo on each headset. A rather elegant detail, a true signature of the brand.
and good ears
On the comfort side, here too Corsair takes care of its product. The foams of the on-ear headphones are rather generous (25mm) and flexible enough not to exert unpleasant pressure on the eardrums.
Moreover, if the entourage of these foams offers one of the most classic imitation leather, the interior is in fabric. The area in contact with the skin is thus “breathable”, allowing air to pass without difficulty, which avoids phenomena of exacerbated sweating.
For the arch, there too the proposal is convincing. The 15mm memory foam does its job and allows the helmet to sit gently on the top of the head. A comfort that persists during long sessions of use, in particular thanks to the featherweight of the HS65: barely 280 grams!
The headset that whispered in the ears of gamers
Once in play, Corsair’s seduction operation continues. The HS65 Surround delivers clear sound in any on-screen situation thanks to never-failing 50mm drivers. Mids and highs are perfectly managed and mastered while the bass delivers real impact. The sound environment is really very good, especially at this price.
On PC and Mac, the Corsair HS65 Surround also offers spatialization features. This requires using the 3.5mm jack to USB adapter and using the manufacturer’s in-house software: iCue.
A true Corsair accessory control platform, the latter offers a wide range of settings for the HS65. Unfortunately, most remain anecdotal and only the equalizer and the microphone boost option are essential.
These two menus will allow you to best configure your headphones in order to enjoy the sound that suits you. Adjust the sensitivity of your microphone. Naturally, different presets are available and will allow you to change your environment in a fraction of a second.
A daily helmet
Outside of gaming, the HS65 Surround is also very good! Thanks to its excellent audio balance, it will allow you to listen to your music in optimal conditions. And if you are in conversation, its microphone ensures perfect communication!
Positioned on the left atrium, the micro-stem is intended to be completely flexible. This makes it possible to position it ideally close to the lips to ensure a very good hearing of your words to your friends in a group of friends. Only the end of the stem is rigid since it is the latter which houses the microphone.
If it is easy to position, it is also easy to cut. Corsair adopts a rocker rod here and all you have to do is raise your microphone to cut off the communication. Practical and fast, just like sound management via a wheel placed at the back of the hull. Classic certainly, but always well executed here.
Excellent, nothing less
Ultimately, there is no criticism to address to the Corsair headset. The HS65 Surround does exactly what is expected of it and it does it very well. The manufacturer signs here a gaming headset that is as pleasant to wear as it is to listen to and offers itself the luxury of doing better than its competitors. Moreover, nearly 15 days after arriving at home, the HS65 Surround has become my everyday headset, serving as much for my gaming sessions as for isolating myself to music during my working days. The ideal companion, with a brilliant quality/price ratio and which does its job in all circumstances.
So of course, at € 89.99, do not expect other features. For this price and these services, you must agree to have a wire connected between your controller and your headset. You also need to make a cross on the management of the sound/voice balance in the headphones or even that the headphones do not bend to better transport your accessory. However, if it’s the sound that takes precedence in your choice, then you can go there with your eyes closed.
