Apple today announced about the launch of the iPhone self-repair program, which was announced at the end of last year. The program will allow iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone SE 3 users to perform home repairs only in the US for now. Also, the launch of this program is planned in Europe at the end of this year.

Apple says original repair manuals and Apple parts and tools will be available at new self-service store. More than 200 individual parts and tools will be available in the store. At first, the store will only have tools for the ‌iPhone 12‌ and ‌iPhone 13‌ and third generation ‌iPhone SE‌ product lines. Apple says it plans to expand its range of tools, manuals and parts for Macs with Apple Silicon chips later this year.

To perform repairs, customers must first review their product’s repair guide on the Apple Support site. After that, they will be able to order the necessary parts and tools in the self-service store and proceed with the repair. All tools and parts offered in the store undergo “extensive testing to ensure the highest quality, safety, and reliability,” says Apple.

While customers must order the parts needed for the repair, Apple will provide a $49 kit that includes all the tools needed for the repair. The rental kit will be available to customers for one week, after which it must be sent back to Apple with free shipping. The rental option offers flexibility for customers who don’t want to buy tools for just one repair.

The program is part of Apple’s efforts to “further expand access to repairs,” the company said. However, Apple warns that the “vast majority” of customers should still use professional repair technicians to ensure their devices are repaired safely and reliably. Over the past three years, Apple has expanded its repair network to include more than 3,000 independent repair providers and more than 5,000 authorized service providers worldwide.
