UPDATE: Now there’s also a trailer for the game (see below) and the first screenshots in our gallery.

The Japanese cult developer Vanillaware pimps its title from the PS2 era: The pretty strategy game GrimGrimoire comes to PS4 and Switch with the suffix OnceMore. And already in July.
The summer fairy tale is only half digested and Apple announces a strange device called the iPhone. The year is 2007 when the young Japanese games studio Vanillaware (13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Dragon’s Crown, Muramasa: The Demon Blade) receives an order while the development of the beautiful Odin Sphere is still in progress: the strategy game GrimGrimoire is to be coded for Nippon Ichi. A few months later, 4P tester Jens will pull out a 75: “GrimGrimoire is an originally conceived and extremely lovingly presented tactical cocktail,” he says and is right; As with so many vanillaware titles, the graphical implementation is particularly interesting. After that, the game disappeared into oblivion for 15 years, too young to arouse retro feelings and not prominent enough to remain in the conversation apart from the Far East tactical cosmos. Til today.
Because in the Japanese Famitsu the new version GrimGrimoire OnceMore was unveiled. This also makes it clear that the upcoming release date at the end of July will only apply to Japan for the time being; but we are counting on a European release for Nippon Ichi.
Unfortunately, pictures showing the “new, high-resolution graphics” are still missing, but a few details about the content of the new edition are already known: There will be a new magic system, plus a fast-forward option for fights and sequences. Hard mode is said to be even trickier than in the original and you can now spend coins on a skill tree and boost your own skills. There is also a fresh cast for the Japanese voices.
