On May 26, according to foreign media reports, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, said that the battery factory that Tesla intends to build in Indonesia may be built in one of the country’s most important comprehensive industrial areas.
It is reported that a large industrial area in the Indonesian province of North Kalimantan (Kaltara) will cover an area of 30,000 hectares, the minister pointed out,The area can generate 10,000 megawatts of hydroelectric power, 10,000 megawatts of solar panel power, and 29,000 megawatts of natural gas.
The 30,000-hectare (115.8-square-mile) Kaltara complex is expected to be one of the largest industrial developments in the world, with construction of the industrial park beginning in December 2021. The minister said that this is very consistent with Musk’s vision of developing green batteries and automotive products, and it can become his first choice.
In addition, the minister said that a team from Tesla had visited Indonesia and was invited to the nickel industry hub in Morowali.
