Over the past year, the number of monthly active Call of Duty players has dropped by 50 million.

After the brand had previously been on the upswing, Call of Duty has seen a significant drop in player numbers over the past year. The number of monthly active users fell by a full 50 million players.

As from the recently published quarterly financial report Activision Blizzard, Activision currently has 100 million monthly active players. In March 2021, the number was still 150 million.

Activision has identified reduced player interest in the free-to-play battle royale spin-off Call of Duty: Warzone and lower sales of Call of Duty: Vanguard compared to its predecessors as contributing factors to the drop in player numbers. The numbers of the mobile offshoot Call of Duty Mobile, on the other hand, remain constant.

Going forward, the company plans to continue with extensive support for the Call of Duty brand. With the Modern Warfare 2 remake, which is rumored to be in development, and Warzone 2, there are already two candidates that could help turn things around again.
