Mercedes rolls out the small T-Class minibus. Comes with electric drive.

After a teaser campaign, Mercedes is now presenting the new model T-Class. This is a small minibus with sliding doors intended for it wants a little more space but is not ready to go all the way into the SUV swamp yet. The T-Class shares what is underneath with the Renault Kangoo and will be available with both an internal combustion engine and fully electric. This will also be a slightly sniffer version of the Citan Tourer sold today, but still not as crisp as the EQT concept that was shown last year. The car measures 4.49 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.71 meters. An even longer version with room for up to seven people will come in the future.

Before the electric version is launched, you can choose between four-cylinder petrol or diesel engines of 95 to 131 horses. All have a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, but it is possible to get a seven-speed DCT machine for some of the options. The drive takes place only on the front wheels.

The price in Germany will start at just under 30,000 euros. When the launch will take place, however, is unclear at the moment.

But it is not a real electric car

Mercedes continues to roll out electric cars, but it is really only the upcoming EQS which is an electric car based on a platform that is only made for electric cars. When you now show the concept EQT, you would think that it is a completely new platform with lots of exciting things. But no, this is a car that will come with petrol, diesel and electricity as propulsion and it shares a platform with Renault Kangoo. The car is thus called EQT, which means that it is a T-Class, one for Mercedes new class with minivans. The model has sliding doors on both sides and Mercedes promises that it will be easy and jump in and out even to the third row. Just like on the Renault Kangoo, they have made a solution that makes the hole to jump in a little extra large. The class should offer great opportunities for variation and if you want to use it to transport things instead of people, you just have to remove the third row and instead run things there. If you just want to drive things, a working version will come later called Citan, a brand that we recognize from before.
