iOS 15.5, delivered in a third beta this evening, contains a novelty not yet visible concerning the Photos app, and more precisely the Memories. The code of this preview contains a list of “sensitive places” which prevent this function from generating photo albums from the geographical coordinates of said places.
This list currently includes the names, latitudes and longitudes of places of memory related to the Holocaust: the extermination camps of Chełmno, Auschwitz, Treblinka, Sobibór, Bełżec, Dachau, Majdanek, but also the Oskar Schindler factory, the Anne Frank house, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin, or the Yad Vashem Memorial.
In other words, all the photos and videos taken in these places will not be able to be the subject of memories. With the help of machine learning, the Photos app creates albums based on places, people, dates, and even subjects (like pets). The next step may be to integrate an option allowing the user to decide for himself which places should be excluded from these memories.
