Former world number one player Angelique Kerber will miss the upcoming Madrid Masters tournament due to a bout of flu, her management told dpa on Tuesday. Germany’s Kerber, 34, had planned to compete at the Madrid event which starts on Thursday but will now not return to the courts until the Rome Masters from May 9 onwards. The three-time grand slam champion caught the illness after a first-round defeat in Stuttgart last week.
