At a quick glance at the specifications, it would be easy to sum up the Motorola Edge 30 as a cheaper version of the Motorola Edge 30 Pro with a slower processor. But that is not at all the impression you get when you have the phone in your hand. That Motorola calls it the thinnest 5g mobile is more relevant. It is a phone with a large screen that still feels flexible thanks to it being so thin, and also light. In fact, it’s not so reminiscent in that respect of the Xiaomi’s Mi11 Lite / 11 Lite NE from last year, and since it was one of our favorite mobiles from 2021, it’s a very positive first impression the Motorola Edge 30 gives.
The screen is 6.5 inches and is of the Amoled type with a refresh rate of as much as 144 Hz. The Snapdragon 778G Plus 5G chipset is a heated version of last year’s chipset with the same name without a plus in it, and it gives really good mid-range performance. The phone feels really fast. If you compare with another new mobile in the same price range and size, Samsung Galaxy A53, the Motorola Edge 30 is both noticeably faster and smoother.
A weight of 155 grams is unusual for a smartphone today, and for that it requires that the frame and back are made of plastic, let alone that Motorola calls it premium plastic. No shortage of plastic, it is a durable material and the design does not feel cheap. A transparent rubber shell is included if you want to protect the phone further, but some of the flexibility is lost then. Motorola Edge 30 has some protection against moisture in the form of IP class 52.
The camera set is a main camera of 50 megapixels, a wide-angle camera with the same resolution and a depth sensor of 2 megapixels. These are the same cameras that are in the Motorola Edge 30 Pro, and if that set felt a bit unambitious in a top model, it may well feel affordable in this mobile for 5000 kronor.
The battery is 4020 mAh, and a 33-watt charger is included. The configuration sold in Sweden has 128 GB storage and 8 GB working memory, but no memory card slot. It comes in the colors gray and green and will go on sale in Sweden on May 9.
