Apple’s App Store concerns have intensified recently, especially with the EU’s preliminary approval of the Digital Markets Act. At the same time, the company is doing its best to show that the App Store is not only a profit machine for Apple but also benefits developers.

Today, two reports have been published that have been sponsored by Apple, but whose authors should be independent. The only report comes from the Progressive Policy Institute and looks at how the App Store economy has created jobs. The other is from Analysis Group and shows, among other things, that small developers’ revenue from the store has increased 113 percent in two years.

Apple has also shared statistics about the Swedish app economy. Among other things, the company claims that there are 96,000 jobs in Sweden thanks to apps on the App Store, 10 percent more than 2019. Trends in the industry today are financial technology, sustainability technology and “femtech” – technology that is mainly aimed at women and often developed by women entrepreneurs.

65 Swedish developers have participated in Apple’s App Store Foundation Program, where they learn how to make their apps better and more optimized for the store.
