Nothing will come of the planned superhero MMO from Daybreak Game Company. Holding company Enad Global 7 announced that the project has been shelved.
Last November we reported on a superhero MMO that was set to be developed by Daybreak Game Company. Unfortunately, nothing will come of it: According to the Swedish holding company Enad Global 7, the development has been discontinued.
This was the second time that a project of this type had to be discontinued. The company is said to have stopped working on a Marvel MMO as early as 2018.
The financial risk was apparently too great for those responsible. After evaluating the “risk profile of the development, the scope of the investment and the long-term product portfolio strategy”, the decision was made not to implement it.
Over 50 million dollars should be invested
A budget of over 50 million US dollars was planned, which should be invested within three years. This amount will now go towards the announced expansions for The Lord of the Rings Online and DC Universe Online. The money should also be distributed to original IPs.
What exactly the players would have expected is not known. The MMO hasn’t gotten past the early stages of development. In any case, the decision against the project should not have any impact on short- to medium-term income.
“Marvel’s Avengers” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” have proven that a Marvel game is no guarantee of success. Just earlier this month was from one painful losing trade for publisher Square Enix.

Nevertheless, there will be no shortage of Marvel games in the future. Four superhero games are currently in development: Snap, Wolverine, Spider-Man 2 and Midnight Suns.
