South Korean trade publication The Elec reports that Google has pushed back the release of its first foldable smartphone, the Pixel Notepad, to the second half of 2022.

According to sources, the delay is due to the fact that the finished product does not meet Google’s standards. The company has also canceled orders for flexible Samsung Display panels for the Pixel Notepad.

The head of DSCC, Ross Yang, stressed that Google does not consider the $1,400 product to be competitive enough, and as a result, it may abandon it altogether. Earlier, an insider revealed details about the Pixel Notepad screens: the gadget was supposed to get a 7.57-inch main folding display and a 5.78-inch external one.

Google may announce the Pixel Notepad at the Pixel 7 launch this fall, Yang said, but the smartphone itself won’t be out until spring 2023.
