If you want to ask Volkswagen about the most regrettable thing in recent years, “diesel emissions cheating” must bear the brunt. Because of the “dieselgate” incident, Volkswagen has been fined more than 300 billion yuan. However, the matter is not fully understood, and the public continues to lose money. On May 26, Volkswagen settled its class-action lawsuit in the UK for 193 million pounds (about 1.6 billion yuan), with more than 90,000 drivers affected by the company’s car exhaust emissions scandal. Volkswagen has not admitted any liability, and the terms and conditions are confidential; the company will pay the claimant’s legal and other costs separately, according to a Volkswagen statement. Volkswagen and law firms Slater & Gordon, Leigh Day and PGMBM representing the claimants in the case said on Wednesday they had reached an out-of-court settlement with as many as 91,000 claims resolved. After a 2015 U.S. investigation found that Volkswagen was using software designed to lower emissions, the automaker faced a number of lawsuits known as the “dieselgate lawsuit” and from European regulators.
