This month, Twitter officially launched the Circle of Friends feature so users can have an “alternative timeline for trusted friends.” While Circle was only available on the mobile app and the Twitter website, the feature is now available in the Mac version of the Twitter app.

While Mac users could already see the tweets shared in the circle, there was no label indicating which tweets were private to close friends. Also, it was not possible to post a new tweet to your circle from the macOS app.

Thankfully, the latest update to the official Twitter app for Mac (version 9.10.1) adds support for Circles, both on iPhone, iPad, and the web. Mac users will now see a green label on tweets posted in the circle, and they will also finally be able to post new tweets to their friends in the Twitter circle.

A circle is Twitter’s attempt to provide a similar experience to close friends on Instagram. Users can add up to 150 accounts to their circle, and only they will see the tweets posted there. The list can be edited at any time, and remote users are not notified. To share a new tweet with your circle, simply click or tap on the “Everyone” option when creating the tweet, then select “Twitter Circle”.

Circle tweets will also appear differently on the timeline so other users will know they are part of that selection. It’s important to note that users can only like a tweet, not retweet it.

Keep in mind that Twitter Circle is not yet available to all users, so even if you have the latest version of the Twitter app, there is a chance that this feature may not be available to you.
