IT House April 26 news, according to 9to5 Mac, 18 months after the release of the first Mac with the M1 chip, Microsoft released a version of Microsoft Teams optimized for Apple Silicon. While the Apple Silicon version of Microsoft Teams has not been made public to Teams users, users can download it through the company’s website.

Microsoft hasn’t publicly announced this version of Teams for macOS, but the document was spotted on the company’s website this week. When users download and install the app, they can see that Teams is now a “universal” app. This means it’s optimized for Macs with Intel and Apple Silicon.

To recap, Macs powered by Apple Silicon can run three different types of applications:

  • via the Mac App Store on Mac iPhone and iPad application

  • Translate running apps through Rosetta 2, allowing users to run apps designed for Intel Macs on Apple Silicon, sometimes apps perform better in Rosetta with M1 than with Intel, Apple has stated

  • Universal Apps are apps built for Apple Silicon and Intel processors and can be downloaded from the Mac App Store or the web

Until this week, Microsoft Teams for macOS ran on Apple Silicon Macs as an Intel app, using Rosetta 2 translation technology. Over the past year and a half, Teams, which lacks support for the Apple Silicon version, has led to numerous complaints from users.

This version of Teams appears to be in beta, which means it’s not necessarily stable, and may have bugs and performance issues. Nonetheless, the app will significantly improve the performance of Apple Silicon devices.

Microsoft releases new public previews of the Teams app every week. The next version is expected to be officially released on April 26.
