Last fall, Nanoleaf launched its latest HomeKit smart lights, Modular Lines. They feature an all-new form factor that makes it easy to create a custom aesthetic for your home, office, or any space. Now the company has released sleek matte black shrouds (also matte pink) to easily transform the white look of the lights.
Nanoleaf Lines have become my favorite modular HomeKit lights due to their clean and simple design.
Great features include Thread + Thread Border Router support, a music renderer and screen mirroring, over 16 million colors, and support for Google Assistant, Alexa, IFTTT, and SmartThings along with HomeKit features.

Practice with Lines Skins in Matte Black
When I first heard the word “skins” I envisioned a sticker solution that you would need to apply to every light and hex connector. Luckily, Nanoleaf has designed matte black and pink hardcover covers that are super easy to put on and take off at any time.
For $19.99 you get 9 flashlight and connector cases that transform the Lines Smarter Kit. If you purchased (or buy) an expansion pack, you will need two sets of Lines skins.
It only took a couple of minutes to remove the matte black headlight covers and replace the white hex caps with new ones.
Here’s a comparison of the standard white finish with a matte black finish:

The matte black creates a nice contrast with the lines and also makes the colors pop. The skins don’t change the colors emitted by the smart light, just the visual aesthetic of the white cover versus matte black.
Lines skins are now available directly from Nanoleaf for $19.99. And if you don’t already have them, the 9-Lamp Nanoleaf Lines Smarter Kit is $199.99 and the 3-Pack Expansion Kit is $69.99.
