According to Sony’s PlayStation official blog, Senior Vice President Hideaki Nishino announced that the PS5’s Variable Refresh Rate (VRR, variable refresh rate) feature will be launched globally this week. VRR is a feature that PS5 promised at the beginning of its release in 2020, and I didn’t expect it to wait until now. VRR is simply to synchronize the display frame rate with the PS5 host output frame rate, which can reduce screen tearing and improve game fluency. Sony said that after the system update, VRR will automatically turn on after identifying the supported environment, and users can also go to the video output settings to manually turn off. The so-called support environment is mainly two points, one is that the display device (TV, monitor, etc.) supports HDMI 2.1 VRR, and the other is game support. According to Sony, released PS5 games can be upgraded to support VRR through patches. The first batch of games includes 15 games, namely: “Astro’s Playroom (Cosmic Robot)”, “Call of Duty: Pioneer” and “Call of Duty: Black” Action Cold War, Death Loop, Destiny 2, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition .
