Rumors have long circulated that Apple plans to build an electric car, but the team working on the project has reportedly faced a lot of difficulties over the years, including development issues and the loss of some key employees.
One of the last to leave was CJ Moore, who left Apple to join autonomous vehicle company Luminar. In a press release published According to Bloomberg, Luminar said Moore will lead the company’s global software development team.
Moore served as director of autonomous systems at Apple and before that worked on Tesla’s autopilot software for almost seven years, according to his LinkedIn profile.
At the end of 2021, Mark Gurman reported that Apple intends to develop an electric car with a fully autonomous control function that does not require human intervention, and Kevin Lynch will be the project leader. According to Gurman, the car will not have a steering wheel and pedals, which will allow it to be driven without human intervention.
It is expected that Apple’s electric car will enter the market no earlier than 2025.
