Apple requires apps to have a built-in “delete account” function, and June 30 is the deadline

However, the policy has already been delayed twice by Apple. Now, the company has set a deadline for developers to update apps based on new guidelines.

Starting June 30, 2022, all apps in the App Store that allow users to create new accounts must provide a way for users to delete accounts. These changes are detailed in App Store Review Guidelines 5.1.1 (v), which explains what apps can and cannot do while an account is signed in.

If your app does not include functionality that is very important and must be based on an online account, users should log in without it. If your app supports account creation, you must also provide the option to delete accounts within the app. Apps may not require users to enter personal information to use, unless directly related to the core functionality of the app or required by law.

In addition, Apple emphasized that the button to delete an account “should be easy to find.” If the app uses an AppleID to log in, the developer must ensure that the user’s identity token is revoked after the account is deleted.

IT House understands that Apple’s new rules also clearly stipulate that applications must provide the option to completely delete the user account (logout), not just disable or log out. Apple requires that all personal data associated with the account must be deleted.

Apple previously stated: “Problematic apps can impair the App Store experience for users and developers, and we are constantly expanding our technology to identify more types of problematic content for removal. If we suspect a developer has deliberately manipulated, fraudulently or Abuse, we will notify them and take action. Consequences may include removal of the app and may affect their Apple Developer Program membership.”
