WoW: Legion was the expansion in which my interest in WoW slowly dwindled after many years. That doesn’t mean I think Legion is grits, I think the expansion is pretty awesome. Aside from the fact that artifact weapons were stripped of all livelihood with the Battle for Azeroth pre-patch, but…well, that’s just borrowed player power. It’s a good thing that WoW: Dragonflight should no longer exist for the time being. Hooray, dear Blizzards, this is a decision that will please many fans.
But back to Legion! There is a mega feature on the Broken Isles that most players don’t even notice as such, but which I personally found damn grandiose and awesome: Suramar. The City of the Nightborn is what I always wanted when the WoW devs talked about “city” in the past. Suramar is not deserted like Gilneas. And Suramar isn’t as sprawling as Ramkahen. Suramar is perfect in my eyes! And that’s why with every expansion announcement I have hope that the concept of the adventure city will come back to WoW… but also with WoW: Dragonflight I seem to look into the tube.

Suramar is immersive gameplay in a small space
Of course, Suramar isn’t perfect lol, really. You don’t need to go straight to the ceiling ^^ Who hasn’t lost their way in the narrow, winding streets? Who hasn’t spent ages looking for a way to that one tower that held a treasure? Who hasn’t been annoyed now and then by the ecstatic screams of “STOP, WHO’S THERE?” from a whole armada of nightborne? Who hasn’t been killed all the time because the phasing was sometimes absolute grit? And who didn’t think timegating was stupid?
There’s a lot of negative things to say about Suramar, but I personally prefer this city to the widespread world quests in every expansion zone about…always. I understand that the WoW creators want to keep the zones of an expansion alive by asking the players via world quests to constantly return to the regions they have already played through. Of course, that’s also nice for latecomers if a max-level hero can help them out. But this intention is also obsolete at the latest when a new high-level zone is added with a later content patch, such as Korthia and Zereth Mortis in Shadowlands.
Could only be any city like Suramar…
Suramar is alive and full of secrets. In there you can quest, search for treasures, practice crafts, do world quests or just stroll around. And imagine what it would be like if a city like Ironforge, Stormwind, Orgrimmar or the Undercity offered this level of immersion. I love the cities of the old continents, don’t get me wrong. But in the meantime they have degenerated into a transit station. If we think about it rationally, then at least half of Stormwind’s dead country is. At least it’s not that bad in Orgrimmar, but that’s probably because Orgrimmar isn’t that big.

How about at least every WoW expansion with a bit of quest love for Orgrimmar and Stormwind? Valdrakken, the capital of the Dragon Islands, will offer career stations. Why not Orgrimmar and Stormwind too? Apart from the fact that it is anyway up for debate whether the Profession changes from WoW: Dragonflight to all crafting or just Dragonflight crafting… how about something happening in our capital cities with every expansion? A little quest here or there doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t have to invent cosmic threats either.
A few errands here, a crafting station over there. Maybe a little flirtation between the owner of the tavern and the daughter of the cheese seller, and you help out because the families really don’t like each other? How about a little detective story that could be continued again and again – aka Hildibrand from Final Fantasy XIV.

Say: What I really want isn’t for Valdrakken to be a Suramar 2.0 (although I think that’s pretty cool and I’ll say why in a moment) but life for our capitals. Not tradespam life. But a real life for the residents of the city and we can assist them, help them, call them to order. I think that’s great!
Alternatively: After our questing all over the Dragon Isles, Valdrakken must first be freed from the proto-dragons who have forgotten that the dragonflights existed 10,000 years ago. And we’re reclaiming Valdrakken bit by bit, week by week. Some parts of the city and titan temples may remain hostile, which would then be world quest locations. Yes, you see correctly, there is a point for WoW (buy now )I wish to timeg on, but based on my own quest progress and not calendar week.
Imagine this: it’s a real fight to take back this city. The bond there is completely different. Then the heroes are there with all their hearts! And of course there are the important features such as portals to the old world, tavern, mailbox, treasury, auction house (yes, that’s in Valdrakken), bank for heroes and guilds, flight master even at level 1. Of course. We don’t want to take anything away from people (even though I think that’s pretty cool for the immersion). But everything else has to be activated first. Would be a super cool solution so that such a big city, like Oribos did, doesn’t overwhelm you so much. thing is: We still have no idea what Valdrakken really looks like. Damn. Who knows, maybe that’s how it will turn out?
