Apple is preparing many Macs with the M2 chip, but the iMac is not on the list. The all-in-one computer could directly upgrade to the Apple M3 chip.
All eyes have been on the M2 chip since the presentation of the Mac Studio equipped with the M1 Ultra chip. Apple is coming to the end with its first generation of chips and preparing a long list of Macs with the future Apple M2 or its variants. In recent days, we have been talking about tests carried out by Cupertino on no less than nine computers; including MacBook Air, 13.3-inch MacBook Pro, Mac mini, or MacBook Pros with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. On the other hand, the iMac does not appear in this phase of test and Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has an idea on this subject.
In his newsletter, he claims that Apple is working on an iMac with an M3 chip. This last one is “already in preparation” and is the subject of tests, without further details on this subject. While the M2 chip is still waiting, the Apple M2 would not be launched “before the end of next year at the earliest”. Availability at the end of 2023 which could lead Apple not to offer an all-in-one equipped with the M2 chip. This scenario would confirm the idea that the Californian firm wants to take its time. It nevertheless appears surprising insofar as the Mac M1, released last spring, is about to celebrate its first anniversary. The manufacturer would take a long time before renewing its all-in-one.
An iMac Pro to accompany the iMac M3, but not in 2022
Mark Gurman takes advantage of this outing to discuss the case of the iMac Pro which is still in the pipeline. Tipped to become the successor to the 27-inch iMac, the specialist indicates that it will “happen”. Nevertheless, this “will not be for now”.
Concerning this top-of-the-range model, the rumors are linked and are not alike. If it seems that it will ship a mini-LED screen, some sources like Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) says that the iMac Pro could see the light of day this summer. On the other hand, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo rather expects 2023.
The Mac mini M2 is gearing up for WWDC 2022
Still on the subject of fixed machines from Apple, the Mac mini M2 is closer than ever. The small desktop computer should indeed be announced at WWDC 2022, at the same time as the MacBook Air M2. An expected launch as the Apple giant plans to renew several models in the coming months. In addition to the presence of the new chip, we can hope for a revisited design.

Recently, it was also discovered that Apple will be testing a Mac mini with an M2 Pro chip. This model would be more efficient and could help the firm to complete its catalog. We will have to wait a little over a month to find out what the firm has in store for us. The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will take place from June 6 to 10.
