With iOS 15, Apple’s Maps app is now able to use augmented reality walking routes in some major cities.
AR mode can display walking directions using the iPhone’s camera, which makes it easier to know where to go in built-up areas and reduces the need to look at your smartphone while driving.
The feature’s availability in Tokyo has been spotted by Ata Distance, which claims maps of other Japanese cities may have received AR mode. But this is difficult to confirm without visiting the place.
Pedestrian AR Mode is already available in London, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, Singapore, Toronto, Vancouver and Washington DC. However, Japan is not added to this list.
