Apple refused to cooperate with Chinese suppliers of front cameras for iPhone 14 series smartphones in favor of South Korean LG Innotek and Japanese Sharp.

According to ET News, Apple plans to use more expensive and high-end autofocus cameras from LG Innotek and Sharp in the iPhone 14, although the company originally planned to switch to LG modules in 2023.

Sources say the change is due to Apple’s reclassification of the front camera as a high-end component and quality issues with Chinese suppliers. The new front-facing camera is rumored to cost nearly three times as much as the cameras in previous iPhone models.

Interestingly, back in March, TFI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo announced the appearance of an autofocus selfie camera in the iPhone 14. At the same time, all four models of the ‌series‌, including the ‌iPhone 14‌, ‌iPhone 14‌ Max, iPhone 14 Pro and ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max, will equipped with an upgraded front camera with a wider ƒ/1.9 aperture. For comparison, the iPhone 13 has 12MP sensors with an ƒ/2.2 aperture.

Apple is expected to introduce new flagship smartphones in September 2022.
