Of the Launch of the new PS Plus is getting closer. To prepare for the new tariffs, Sony has a detailed FAQ on the PlayStation Blog published, which should answer important questions about the new subscription options. In the guide, the publisher confirms, among other things, that the new tariffs in Germany should go live on June 23rd. In the USA, the start is planned for June 13th, in Asia (except for Japan) the new one is running PlayStation Plus since May 23rd.
New PS Plus: The most important information about the start
At the start in Germany you have the choice of three PS Plus tariffs: Essential, Extra and Premium. The Essential version is the same as the previous standard subscription with access to a monthly changing range of games for PS4 and PS5, access to online multiplayer, cloud storage and discounts. The price remains at 59.99 euros per year. On the other hand, if you choose the Extra Membership (99.99 euros per year), you also get access to a games catalog for PS5 and PS4. “The launch of the new PlayStation Plus comes with 700 titles spread across three membership plans. Selected content includes blockbuster hits like Demon’s Souls, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, NBA 2K 22, Red Dead Redemption 2, Returnal and more,” writes Sony.
The packed PS Plus package, on the other hand, is available with the premium membership (119.99 euros per year). The tariff also includes a classic games catalog for PSOne, PS2 and PSP as well as PS3 remasters. There are also time-limited game demos and cloud streaming of original PS3 games. Games for PSOne, PS2, PSP and PS4 can also be accessed via cloud streaming. The first-party classics for PSOne seem to run out in the 50Hz PAL version reports from Asian players. The NTSC versions running at 60Hz, which were available outside of Europe, are therefore not used – not even outside of the PAL region.
If you already have a PS Plus membership, your subscription will be switched to PS Plus Essential when the new plans start. “PlayStation Now members are migrating to PlayStation Plus Premium without any increase in their current subscription fees with the launch,” adds Sony. It should be noted that after the tariffs were introduced, the streaming service PlayStation Now will no longer be available as a stand-alone subscription service.
How often are new games added to PS Plus?
Anyone who takes out a membership for PS Plus Essential in the future will receive – as is now the case with the standard subscription – a monthly changing range of games. Means: As before, there is every first Tuesday of each month additional games for PS5 and PS4 included. With an Extra or Premium plan, you can look forward to a monthly update of the game catalogs for PS4 and PS5. According to Sony, “We will have another monthly update mid-month with new games for the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium/Deluxe plans. The number of games updated will vary from month to month.”
Sony confirms that “some first PlayStation and PSP titles” also support trophies. Among them are Ape Escape, Hot Shots Golf, IQ Intelligent Qube and Siphon Filter. Anyone who decides to download one of the demo versions mentioned can transfer their game progress when purchasing the full version. Trophies earned are also retained. Sony also explains that games from the catalog available for extra and premium customers can also be played mostly offline. However, a connection to PSN is required every seven days to reconcile PS Plus membership status.
