Global report of 169 deaths from childhood hepatitis of unknown etiology WHO: close monitoring

As of April 21, the United Kingdom, the United States, Spain and other countries have reported cases of childhood hepatitis of unknown etiology, with a total of 169 cases.114 of them are from the UK. The patients ranged in age from 1 to 16 years old, and 17 of them required liver transplants.

The WHO said it was closely monitoring the situation and working with the UK health department and other member states.

According to CCTV, the main symptoms of the child include fever, jaundice, loss of appetite, etc. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that adenovirus may be the cause.

In a previous Global Times report, British health officials were quoted as saying that adenoviruses rarely cause severe hepatitis in healthy people. It is very rare for this to occur in children without serious underlying health problems.
