The 34-year-old Petkovic secured victory on her third match point after 1 hour 29 minutes. Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, a former semi-finalist at Roland Garros, awaits Petkovic in the next round. Petkovic’s compatriots Jule Niemeier and Tatjana Maria exited the women’s draw with first round defeats on Sunday but former world number one Angelique Kerber is also in action Monday, with rain delaying her contest against Poland’s Magdalena Frech.
