While Apple has just finished rolling out all variants of the M1 chip and we’re waiting for the first batch of M2 computers, it looks like the Cupertino-based company is already working on its third generation of silicon for Macs and iPads. The M3 iMac is coming, here’s what we know.

In the latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reveals that a version of the iMac M3 is already in development. While it’s unclear what enhancements or technologies this chip will use, it’s interesting to know that Apple is already aiming its entry-level processor at another iMac.

At the moment, Gurman believes that Apple is working on several computers with the M2 processor:

M2 chip for the new MacBook Air, entry-level MacBook Pro and Mac mini; M2 Pro and M2 max chips for the new 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro; Dual M2 Ultra Chip for Mac Pro.

The M2 chip could arrive as early as June, as a journalist said that Apple may be planning to release several new Macs in the next couple of months. Also, here’s what Gurman wrote about the iMac M3:

I’ve since heard that the M2 chips aren’t the only ones being tested at Apple. And if you’re waiting for a new iMac, I’ve heard that an M3 version of this desktop is already in the works – although I guess it won’t launch until the end of next year. Also, for those asking, I still think the iMac Pro is coming. It just won’t be soon.

was also able to confirm from independent sources that Apple is working on all of these M2 Macs, though it’s interesting to note that the next iMac may feature the M3 chip later next year, skipping the M2 processor.

Only the 24-inch iMac model is currently available. Since the company has no plans to release a larger iMac, it looks like this could be the version that gets the M3 processor in the future.
